We were delighted to welcome Mr Matthew Driscoll to our leadership team in Term 2. This year, we have established a new role within the School Executive team, Head of Teaching and Learning, to provide strategic leadership of teaching excellence, student learning and academic outcomes across the School.
The introduction of this role reflects our commitment to strengthening the leadership of learning acrossSt Catherine’s and ensuring our academic vision is both clear and consistently realised. We know that when girls learn in an environment that both supports and challenges them, their confidence grows, their thinking deepens and their success lifts those around them.Following an extensive recruitment process, supported by an external firm specialising in educational leadership appointments, Matthew was appointed to the position and joined us on campus in Week 5 of Term 2.
Matthew joins St Catherine’s with broad experience across several leading independent schools, including The Scots College, Trinity Grammar School and Thomas Hassall Anglican College. Through these roles, he has developed a deep understanding of effective learning cultures and the leadership required to sustain them. A History teacher by background, Matthew has taught students in Years 7-12, with particular expertise in Modern History and History Extension.
It has been an immense joy to be so warmly welcomed into the vibrant learning life of St Catherine’s by students, staff and the wider community.Mr Matthew Driscoll
He holds a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Educational Leadership, in which his research focused on programs to support early-career teachers. He is currently undertaking a Graduate Certificate in Educational Research, with plans to continue this work through a PhD.
Matthew also brings a strong personal commitment to girls’ education. As a parent who has chosen a girls’ school for his own daughters, he understands the unique opportunities such an environment provides. He values creating spaces where young women can build confidence, think deeply and engage fully in their learning.
Since joining the School, Matthew has spent time with staff and students, seeking to understand what already makes learning at St Catherine’s so strong. His first impressions have been of a warm and welcoming community, characterised by both an enthusiasm for learning and a strong commitment to helping each student achieve her personal best.
Matthew will continue to work closely with staff to further strengthen teaching and learning across the School, refining practice, building consistency and ensuring every girl is supported and challenged to achieve her full potential.
