one and all

Choosing a school that will allow your daughter to develop in her own way can be difficult. St Catherine’s is but one option and your list of criteria long. However, we believe that how we nurture individuality and develop personal balance, and what we provide in academic structure, spiritual development and wider activities sets us apart.

We are proudly an Anglican girls’ school, providing a tailored educational experience that combines a rigorous academic program with one of the broadest curriculum choices on offer, from Kindergarten to Year 12. From this base, we help girls find their own great, to develop and flourish and become young women of character and intellect, equipped to make their unique contribution to the world.

Register and visit

If you are considering St Catherine’s as a preferred school for your daughter, she will need to apply to be placed on a waitlist for her preferred year of entry. We recommend this application is completed as soon as possible, as interviews are granted based on the date of application and other entry point requirements.

We highly recommend visiting us to see the school in action, if you have not already done so. We hold open mornings four times a year at which you can hear more from our headmistress and staff, and see our students at work and play.

Offers and entry points

Places are offered to students based on a set of ordered criteria:

  1. Being the daughter or granddaughter of an Old Girl.
  2. Having an existing sibling at the school.
  3. Have a parent who is a member of the Anglican Clergy.
  4. The date of application.

We have four standard intake years for the majority of new students: Kindergarten, Years 3, 5 and 7. Mid-year entry will be considered if a vacancy exists. From time to time places become available in non-intake years. These are subject to availability.

Non-residents should review our international students page for further information.

Steps to enrolling

We have aimed to make the enrolment process as straightforward as possible, while ensuring you can get the information you need and connect with us appropriately.

Step 1:

Complete and submit the application form, taking care to ensure you provide all relevant information and supporting documentation as required.

Step 2:

Two years prior to the commencement year, you will be invited to a Welcome Morning. Parents and girls gather for an informal talk about the school, followed by a tour and then an interview with our headmistress or one of the leadership team.

Interviews for Kindergarten occur one year prior.

Step 3:

After we’ve met and if a place is available, successful candidates will receive a formal letter of offer.

Step 4:

Parents have two weeks to accept the offer of a place. The place will be held for your daughter once your enrolment fee has been received.

Step 5:

Part of the orientation process includes a tour of the school, ordering text books, uniform fitting, access to the school portal, and an introduction to head of junior school, senior school year mentor or director of boarding (where applicable).

Frequently asked questions

We provide answers and guidance to some common questions.

We recommend waitlisting as soon as possible as students are selected for interview based on date of application. The earlier you apply the greater the likelihood of being offered an interview. This also applies to daughters of Old Girls’ and siblings already at the school.

St Catherine’s is a non-selective school. Students are offered a place based on the following:

  1. Daughter or granddaughter of an Old Girl.
  2. Sibling currently attending the school.
  3. Member of the clergy and staff.
  4. Date of application.
  5. Re-enrolment of a student, depending on circumstances and availability of a place.
  6. Daughters of families on international or interstate transfer from similar schools.

We make contact approximately 21 months out from the waitlisted commencement year. We invite you to attend an interview, and we request various forms of material be made available to assist with the interview. This generally includes:

  • Most recent two school reports.
  • Most recent Naplan results.
  • Birth Certificate.
  • Passport for overseas application.
  • Other material for overseas application (including AEAS report or IDAT report).

All students are requested to attend the interview ideally with both parents or legal guardians. The interview takes around 30 minutes and is conducted with one of the leadership team members.

There is no need to prepare: our main aim is to get to know the student and family and discuss their educational and life experiences to date.

All overseas interviews will be conducted via Zoom.

A student is generally offered a place shortly thereafter subject to availability. Families are given two weeks to confirm and begin the enrolment process. We generally say that you will know if your daughter is attending St Catherine’s School about 18 months out of the commencement year.

We understand circumstances change and you are welcome to defer your position from one intake year to the next, however, any enrolment fee paid is non-refundable and non-transferable from one intake year to the next. Furthermore, a position for the deferred year cannot be guaranteed.

If you have not paid your enrolment fee and wish to defer your child’s place, a position for the deferred year will not be guaranteed and you will go back on the waitlist. It is likely you will need to re interview for the preferred year, especially if deferring from the junior school to the senior school.

We encourage all families to waitlist siblings as soon as possible. We offer enrolment preference to pre-existing families, subject to availability.

A discount on the application fee and enrolment fee applies for a sibling/s and daughters of Old Girls., subject to the other sibling/s or daughter/s being a current student at the school.

St Catherine’s has relationships with various independent boys’ schools in Sydney including Cranbrook School, Coogee Boys’ Preparatory School, The Scots College and Waverley College.

St Catherine’s School accepts all faiths and those that have no faith at all.

A minimum score of intermediate to upper intermediate is required. Each application is considered on a case by case basis, and further entry pre-requisites may be required. Please speak with enrolments regarding your query.

ELICOS is required and is to be undertaken prior to commencement at St Catherine’s for those who do not meet the minimum English language proficiency requirement.

All overseas students must reside in the boarding house, unless they live with their parent/s full time in Sydney. We do not accept homestay requests or placements.

Yes. If your daughter does not have a friend/relative or will not travel home, the director of boarding will assist booking a homestay with the Australian Homestay Network (AHN).
