The HSC structure
The HSC is an internationally recognised qualification, awarded to students who have successfully completed secondary education in New South Wales. It offers a highly flexible and accessible structure, with a wide variety of subjects to choose from.
St Catherine’s offers up to 40 courses in the HSC year.
Preparing and managing
Students have all the support they need through their final senior years, as they determine their choice of subjects and how to manage their time and effort effectively.
Clearly structured syllabuses set out what students are expected to learn and be able to do in each course by the end of Year 12, assessment tasks, sample examination questions and marking guidelines help students set goals and understand the level of achievement expected.
There is much to prepare and the management of time and priorities will keep minds focused. Our holistic Academic Care program helps ensure that students maintain a sense of balance, and remain positive through their senior years of study.
What courses are studied?
All students at St Catherine’s study Board Developed Courses, which are set and externally examined by NESA.
The range is extensive, giving students greater flexibility in what they can choose – and what suits their individual interests and skillsets. It includes but is not limited to: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Business Studies, PDHPE, Languages and Design and Technology.
At their completion, these courses can contribute to the calculation of an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
