Caring for
our students
We have a whole-school approach to student care. We work collaboratively with students, families, and staff to build protective factors, nurture confidence and support students to make considered and positive decisions.
We support students as they navigate the ups and downs of life, try their hand at building new skills and bounce back after adversity.
Strong, respectful relationships are central to student growth and this principle is at the heart of our interactions and the academic care program.
Our wellbeing focus
Our academic care program is proactive in working to develop social and emotional competencies and our House system, cross-age mentoring programs and cocurricular and sporting offerings help to strengthen belonging and connection amongst students.
We focus on building and maintaining an environment that has safe relational structures — tutor groups, peer mentoring, house systems and building protective factors through an evidence based academic care program.
At St Catherine’s we focus on the whole person as we work in partnership with families so their daughter feels well, functions well and feels connected. When they are doing those three thing, they are in a position where they can thrive. When a student feels seen and understood, they are more likely to engage, take healthy risks and meet their potential.
Supporting the learning journey
Our experienced Learning Enrichment team works across the school to enhance personal academic development and develop, extend and inspire learning journeys for those in need of further extension or assistance at an individual level.
We recognise that some students need extra challenges to get the most out of their education, and we work with them to tailor a program which challenges areas of strength, offers extension opportunities in specific subjects, or provides acceleration beyond their current year level.
From time to time some girls may need additional encouragement or support, and we provide appropriate intervention to help overcome these stumbling blocks. This can include literacy and numeracy, curriculum subjects, assessments, study skills, organisation and exam preparation.
All progress is monitored and we work as a unified team with teachers, families and specialists to maintain a consistent and informed learning approach.
English as an additional language
We also provide an English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) program for girls whose primary language is not English.
They receive help with English to support their learning and have access to specialist teachers right across the curriculum.
Shaping enriched individuals
We believe in offering a wide range of opportunities for our girls to extend themselves beyond the classroom.
Through cocurricular programs, service opportunities, leadership roles and international experiences, our students are encouraged to challenge themselves, discover new strengths and grow as confident young women.
Our enrichment activities are varied and designed around our students’ interests and passions, nurturing creativity, resilience, teamwork and a lifelong love of learning.
