Celebrating 170 years

Since 1856, generations of girls have shaped St Catherine’s into the School it is today, and they remain at the heart of everything we celebrate. Expect cake, celebrations and the opportunity to purchase commemorative gifts as we celebrate 170 years of St Catherine’s together.

A Fair with history

The Magnolia Fair continues a tradition that reaches back to the school’s earliest days. The first recorded charity sale was held in 1861, when a sale of “fancy work” helped offset the cost of building Stone House, now the school’s Administration Building.

Over the generations, fetes and bazaars became an important way to celebrate the St Catherine’s community bringing students, families, Old Girls and our surrounding community together.

In 2008, the fete was renamed the St Catherine’s Magnolia Fair, recognising the importance of the Magnolia emblem in the school’s tradition.

“The grand Magnolia tree which has stood majestically on our grounds since 1856 has been appreciated for its beauty, written about in stories and poems, drawn, climbed upon, hidden within and sheltered under.”
