St Catherine's has a dynamic sports department that includes coaches who are former Olympic athletes and many students compete at national and international levels. We encourage physical activity to benefit the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional health of our girls.

Competitive team sport

A wide variety of sports are on offer and we encourage every girl to play for the School and develop a positive, lifelong, fitness habit.

Competitive sport encourages self-discipline and teaches the fundamentals of team-work and fair-play. It realises our core virtues of integrity, respect, courage and service.

Years 7-12 can register to play basketball, hockey, indoor soccer, netball, tennis, touch football, badminton, soccer, softball and water polo on the school portal and every girl will be offered a place in a graded team.

Games are played once a week in the 28-school strong Independent Girls' Schools Sports Association (IGSSA) or as part of local sport competitions. Talented students are encouraged to trial for representative team sport.

Representative sport

There are many opportunities for our talented athletes to gain selection in representative IGSSA sport. Emerging athletes may be nominated by the sport department or girls can join a squad and test their ability against standards set by the head coach. Teams are selected from squad training performances, school inter-house carnivals or trials. Once they are selected, girls are offered a training program to prepare for the IGSSA carnivals.

Representative sports on offer include athletics, basketball, cross country, diving, gymnastics, hockey, netball, rowing, tennis, touch football, snow sports, soccer, softball, swimming and water polo.
