Curriculum

St Catherine’s pursues excellence in teaching and learning, encouraging girls to take an active role in their learning and make informed choices about their education. During Years 7-10, girls study a range of mandatory courses, with elective options available from Year 8 onwards. In Years 11 and 12, students choose from a wider range of subjects to prepare for the Higher School Certificate (HSC).

Curriculum Years 7-10

During Year 7 all girls study English, mathematics, science, history, technology, visual arts, personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE), Biblical studies, French, Chinese or Latin and music. Some classes are graded to cater for students with a special interest or prior experience in particular areas of the curriculum.

In Year 8 students choose two electives from French, Chinese, Japanese, Latin, Spanish, music and visual arts.

In Year 9 students choose 3 electives to complement the Board of Studies mandatory courses in mathematics, English and science. We offer drama, visual arts, history, languages, design and technology, food technology, music and commerce. One of these electives must be studied continuously throughout Years 9 and 10.

Curriculum Years 11-12

Years 11 and 12 are supported by a strong academic care team to focus on the academic challenge of their final school years. Class sizes are small and students receive rich feedback, regularly, from their teachers. Girls are encouraged to check the pre-requisite requirements for their intended university course or future career path before selecting HSC subjects.
