The Junior School Green Team are passionate about protecting the environment for their future and trying to live as sustainably as possible. One way of doing this is by reducing the amount of rubbish that is sent to landfill. Composting our crunch'n'sip scraps at school has had a double positive effect – not only are the scraps being composted for use in the St Cath's gardens, but preventing organic matter from entering classroom bins means that they don't need emptying every day – considering the number of classes, over a term this is a significant number of bin bags we have prevented from going to landfill.
The Green Team have formed a partnership with Terracycle, a company specialising in hard-to-recycle products. Please support our initiatives (and reduce the amount of landfill produced at your home!) by collecting and sending in:
Oral care products (toothpaste tubes, old toothbrushes etc). Please click here for more information regarding accepted items.
Writing instruments (pens, textas, highlighters etc). Please click here for further information.
Bread Bag Tags – the proceeds of the recycling of these will be used to provide wheelchairs for the needy in South Africa. For more information please click here.
Bottle Tops - these are sent to a wonderful charity who recycle them into prosthetic hands for children in Australia and the rest of the world. Not all bottle tops can be accepted as the quality of the plastic is important. More information can be found here.
Thank you for supporting our initiatives!
