Closing the gap in Indigenous education

Congratulations to Nikita Kearney OG 2017 who has been awarded a scholarship to reside at UNSW while she completes her studies in social work and criminology. Nikita is a descendant of the Gurindji and Wiradjuri people and came to St Catherine's from Darwin in Year 10 as a board.

It has been quite a journey for Nikita. "Life back home was completely different," she said. "I had no appreciation for school education. I never thought I would have the opportunity to go to uni."

What an inspiration Nikita is to have gone on to become a school prefect and now to begin a double degree. She plans to have a strong voice when it comes to making a difference to the lives of Indigenous people and we have no doubt she will achieve her goal.
