Ruby signs with the university of California, Berkeley for water polo

Congratulations to Ruby Swadling of St Catherine's School, Waverley who has just signed with the University of California, Berkeley for water polo.

Ruby has just completed her HSC and will be the first St Catherine's student to sign into the American collegiate system while still at school. The University of California, Berkeley is known for being one of the top schools in the country for water polo, and has a prestigious name for academics.

Ruby will be competing in the NCAA division 1 competition from January-May 2020, while studying and living on campus in Berkeley.

Voted among her St Catherine's peers as the "most likely to break a world record", Ruby has already had a successful career in water polo.

Ruby earned her first cap for the Australian women's national water polo team in January 2019, then competed in the junior world championships in Portugal during August and September, while studying for her HSC.

Ruby also competed for Australia in Greece and Hungary, and achieved fourth place at the FINA World Youth Water Polo Championships 2018 in Belgrade, Serbia.

"I'm honoured to say that I have been given the opportunity to attend the University of California, Berkeley to play Water Polo next year. It was a major goal of mine to further my water polo career and academic development at college in the US. St Catherine's has played an integral role in getting me there. Ever since I moved to St Catherine's in Year 10, the school has provided a platform for me to work towards this goal. They provided me with an environment to feel supported not only academically but emotionally and recognised the importance of not only my academic journey but also my athletic career. I am forever grateful for the support and guidance they have provided in getting me there." Ruby Swadling

We wish Ruby every success in her water polo career.
